Buying a door
The four decisions that set the price
Almost every garage door quote in South Africa is a function of four things, and once you understand them you can read any quote you are given — including ours.
Size. A double door is not twice the price of a single, but it is not far off. Oversized and non-standard openings — and older Gauteng homes are full of them — need a made-to-measure door rather than a stock size.
Material. Steel is the value option and suits most homes. Aluminium is lighter, will not rust and carries glass beautifully, at a premium. Meranti is the most beautiful and the most demanding. Fibreglass is the specialist answer for humid or coastal conditions.
Style. Sectional doors seal better, use the full opening width and let you park right up against them. Roller doors are the answer for low headroom. Tip-ups are cheap and simple but swing outwards.
Automation. A separate line item, generally R4 500 – R9 500 fitted. Doing it at the same time as the door is cheaper than doing it as a second visit.

Aluminium doors
Light on the motor, immune to rust, and the only sensible frame for large glass panels. This is the modern-home look, and it costs accordingly.

Meranti and hardwood
Nothing else looks like it. Heavy, so the springs and motor must be specified properly, and it needs sealing every two to three years on the Highveld.

Roller doors
The answer for low-headroom garages, workshops and storage. Nothing hangs from the ceiling, so your racks stay where they are.

Tip-up doors
One panel, counterbalanced, simple and cheap. Very common on older Gauteng homes and perfectly serviceable.

Doors with automation
Ordering the motor with the door saves a second callout, and it means the motor is sized to the door from the outset instead of retro-fitted to whatever arrived.

A colour is not a finishPowder-coated and painted are not the same thing, and they do not age the same way.
Glazing adds weightAnd weight changes the springs and the motor. It is not free.

For 2026: a single steel sectional runs roughly R6 500 – R11 000 supplied and fitted; a double R11 000 – R18 000. Aluminium starts around R11 000 for a single and R18 000 for a double. Hardwood runs from about R13 000 and can pass R60 000 on a large custom double. Automation is a separate item at R4 500 – R9 500.
Do you sell garage doors without installation?
As a rule, no. Setting torsion springs is dangerous work and a door hung out of square destroys its own hardware — we are not willing to put our name on a door and then have no idea how it was hung. What we will do is quote you a fair supply-and-fit price so you can see exactly what the fitting portion costs.
How long before you can fit my new door?
Standard steel doors in common colours we can usually fit within a few working days. Custom sizes, non-standard colours, aluminium with glazing and hardwood are made to order, and lead times generally run two to four weeks. We will give you a real date, not a hopeful one.
Do you offer any payment options?
Standard terms are a deposit on order and the balance on completion, and we take EFT and card. Anything else — staged payments on a large estate contract, for instance — is a conversation, and we are reasonable about it.
Can you match my neighbour's door in the complex?
Usually. Most complexes and estates have a specified door profile and colour, and we will match it exactly — that is a large part of what we do in the northern suburbs and the Waterfall area. Bring us a photo and the body corporate spec if you have it.
