Single vs double
A double door is not double the price, but it is close. It also needs heavier springs and a stronger motor, which is where the gap widens.
- Single from ~R6 500
- Double from ~R11 000
Published ranges, not a phone number and a promise. What a door costs, what a motor costs, what a broken spring costs — and the four things that move every one of those numbers.

How pricing works
We will happily give you a range on the phone — that is what this page is for. What we will not do is commit to a firm number for a door we have not measured, because four variables decide it and we cannot see any of them from here.
The opening. Standard or non-standard, single or double, and how much headroom sits between your lintel and the ceiling. Older Gauteng homes throw up openings that match nothing in any catalogue.
The material and finish. Steel, aluminium, meranti or fibreglass; standard colour or custom; plain or glazed.
What is already there. Is there an old door to remove? Is the lintel sound? Is the timber frame rotten? Is the existing motor worth keeping?
Automation. New motor, or reuse the one you have. Battery backup or not. How many remotes.
Anyone who gives you a firm price without asking about those is giving you an opening bid, and it will grow.
Price drivers
If you understand these, you can read any quote you are given — including the one that looks suspiciously cheap.
A double door is not double the price, but it is close. It also needs heavier springs and a stronger motor, which is where the gap widens.
Steel is the value option; aluminium is the premium; hardwood is the luxury; fibreglass is the specialist. In that order.
Glass adds weight, and weight means heavier springs and a stronger motor. A custom colour usually means a made-to-order door.
A separate item. Sized to the door's weight and duty cycle, plus battery backup, remotes and any keypad or app module.
A cracked lintel, a rotten timber frame or brickwork that must be made good will add to the day. We flag it at the measure.
Some quotes exclude it and leave you with a rusted door on the driveway. Ours does not.
Reading a quote
We are frequently not the cheapest number a customer gets. We are frequently the only one with all six of these on it.
Safety cablesOn extension-spring doors these are what stop a snapped spring flying.
Removal of the old doorOtherwise it stays against your wall until you find a bakkie.
Springs matched to the doorNot "the same as last time" — last time's spring is why you are phoning.
Safety reverse set and testedThirty seconds of work. Skipped astonishingly often.
Written guaranteeTwelve months, on paper. A verbal promise at the gate is not a guarantee.
Warranty registrationManufacturer warranties on motors need registering. We do it for you.

Updated for 2026. Ranges reflect what we actually quote in Gauteng, not a national average scraped off the internet. Steel prices move with the rand and with the coil price; if that changes materially we update this page rather than quietly repricing on the driveway.
Getting value
The cheapest garage door in South Africa is the one you only buy once. A R6 500 door hung badly on the wrong springs will need a motor in year three and a re-hang in year five, and by then you have spent more than the R11 000 door your neighbour bought and forgot about.
Fitting the motor while the door is going in saves you a second callout and means the motor is specified to the door from the outset. It is one of the few genuine savings in this business.
A R900 service that catches a fraying cable saves the R4 000 panel that cable would eventually have destroyed. Over fifteen years, servicing a door costs less than replacing it early.
An oversized motor on a light door is not "future-proofing". It hammers the hardware and it costs more. Size it to the door.
FAQ
What things cost, and why the number moves.
Send us a photo of your garage door on WhatsApp. We can usually tell you what has failed before we load the van.
WhatsApp a photoA single steel sectional door costs roughly R6 500 – R11 000 supplied and fitted; a double runs R11 000 – R18 000. Aluminium starts at about R11 000 (single) and R18 000 (double). Meranti and hardwood begin around R13 000 and can pass R60 000 on a large custom double.
Automation is separate, generally R4 500 – R9 500 fitted. Everything above is a planning range — the quote is written on site once we have measured.
Between R4 500 and R9 500 supplied and fitted for a quality residential unit, including remotes. Battery backup adds R900 – R2 200. The spread comes down to the weight of the door, the brand, and how many cycles a day the household actually puts through it.
Roughly R1 200 – R2 800 for a pair of torsion springs on a single door, and R1 600 – R3 400 on a double. Always replace them in pairs: both springs have done identical work, and the second one is not far behind the first.
Because they are frequently not quoting the same job. Check whether the quote includes removal of the old door, safety cables, springs matched to the door's weight, a tested safety reverse, and a written guarantee. Strip those out and any quote gets cheaper — right up until something fails.
No. The on-site measure and quote are free and carry no obligation. What we do charge for is a callout where we diagnose and repair a fault, and we tell you that number before we drive out rather than after we arrive.
Steel and aluminium prices move with the rand and with global coil pricing, so it is possible. If they move materially we will update this page — what we will not do is quote you off this page and then adjust the number when the technician is standing in your driveway.
