Four faults account for most of the garage doors we repair
Garage doors do not fail creatively. After fifteen years and thousands of callouts across Gauteng, the same handful of faults come up again and again — and because they are predictable, we carry the parts for them on the vehicle instead of ordering them in on Tuesday.
The single most common one is a broken torsion spring. The springs, not the motor, carry the weight of the door; the motor only guides it. When a spring snaps, a door that felt like nothing suddenly weighs somewhere between 80 and 150 kilograms, and the motor will destroy its own gearbox trying to lift it. If your door has suddenly become impossibly heavy, stop pressing the remote.
After that it is cables (a snapped cable makes the door hang skew — stop using it immediately), rollers and tracks (grinding, screeching, jumping the track) and the motor itself (stripped gears, failed capacitors, boards cooked by a lightning strike).
