How we install
A garage door is only as good as the day it was hung
You can buy an excellent door and have it ruined by a bad installation. A door hung 5mm out of square binds in the tracks, wears its rollers out in two years and puts the motor under a load it was never sized for. Almost every "faulty door" we are called to inspect is actually a badly installed one.
So we start with the opening, not the catalogue. We measure the width, the height, the headroom above the lintel and the side room on both sides, and we check whether the lintel is straight and sound. Only then do we tell you which doors will actually fit — and whether the one you had your eye on will clear your ceiling.
Then we hang it properly: tracks plumb and parallel, springs weighed and matched to the door, safety cables on any extension-spring setup, rollers seated, and the whole thing balanced so it stays put wherever you stop it by hand. That last test is the one that separates a good installation from a bad one, and it is the reason our doors do not eat motors.

A straight swap on a single door is usually a half-day; a double is most of a day. Add a motor and it becomes a full day. If the opening needs work — a new lintel, brickwork made good, a rotten timber frame replaced — we tell you at the measure, not on the morning.
Do you remove and take away my old garage door?
Yes, as standard. The old door leaves with us and is disposed of responsibly. You should not be left with a rusted tip-up leaning against the boundary wall for three weeks.
Can you fit a new door to my existing motor?
Often, yes — if the motor is sound and has the pulling power for the new door. What we will not do is hang a heavy hardwood door on a light motor that was sized for a thin steel one. That is how you buy a new door and a new motor in the same year.
What sizes do garage doors come in?
The common South African residential sizes are roughly 2 400 – 2 600mm wide for a single and 4 800 – 5 000mm for a double, with heights around 2 100 – 2 400mm. But older Gauteng homes are full of openings that match nothing at all, which is exactly why we measure rather than assume.
Do I need headroom above the door?
Yes. A sectional door needs roughly 300 – 400mm of headroom between the top of the opening and the ceiling for standard tracks, and a roller door needs room for the drum. Where headroom is tight there are low-headroom track systems and side-mounted motors — we will tell you which applies to your garage when we measure.
Can you install a garage door in a new build?
Yes, and it is worth involving us before the opening is closed up rather than after. Getting the lintel height and the opening width right at build stage costs nothing; correcting them afterwards costs a great deal.
